Step 1: Prepare for Registration
Gather the information and resources that you need to become an SP-API developer.
The Solution Provider Portal is the central hub that you use to manage your Selling Partner API (SP-API) applications. Through the Solution Provider Portal, you create a developer profile that defines your organization's identity and intended use of the SP-API. Before you begin registration, review this guide and gather everything that you need.
Determine your developer type
Determine which developer category you fall into:
- Public developer: You build applications for multiple selling partners. Your applications appear in the Selling Partner Appstore and require a complete security review.
- Private developer: You build applications for your organization. These applications aren't listed in the Selling Partner Appstore and have a streamlined review.
Determine the roles that you require
Roles determine which API operations you can call. While you can submit additional role requests later, it's helpful to have a general idea of which roles you want to start with, because the developer profile registration form requires you to select which roles you might need:
- Restricted roles: Provide access to personally identifiable information (PII) and require enhanced security.
- Unrestricted roles: Handle general marketplace data with standard security requirements.
To identify the roles that you need:
- Review the roles overview for a high-level understanding.
- Browse the role mappings documentation to see which roles grant access to specific operations.
Gather the required information
Before you begin registration, have the following documentation ready.
For account creation and identity verification:
- Business information such as your company registration number and your registered business address
- Government-issued ID or passport
- Recent bank or credit card statement
For developer profile setup:
- Use case descriptions
- If you're already registered as a developer in Seller Central or Vendor Central, get your developer ID, which you can find in Seller Central or Vendor Central
- If you require any restricted roles, gather your security and compliance documentation, data handling documentation, implementation timeline and architecture, data retention policies
Review the required policies
The security and compliance framework for the SP-API is built on three core policies: the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), the Data Protection Policy (DPP), and the Developer Agreement. These policies help support the security and proper functioning of the SP-API and provide guidelines for responsible API usage. You must follow these policies to maintain your API access privileges. To review the policies, refer to Policies and Agreements.
